Brigades – Notre-Dame-du-Cap Shrine in Cap-de-la-Madeleine

The Shrine’s volunteer brigade is the largest and most active in Canada. It was founded in 1965 and is the second largest Marian shrine in North America. It attracts more than 350,000 people each year.

The brigade is made up of nearly 20 volunteers, all of whom are trained in first aid to assist visitors and pilgrims. Although the pilgrimage season runs from May 1st to mid-October, volunteers are present throughout the year to support the activities of the Shrine. In fact, the Basilica can accommodate 1,800 people and there is always the possibility that during Masses and Shrine activities, people may be injured or fall ill.

Our brigades are always in need of basic first aid equipment but also medical equipment such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, reanimation and, communication equipment. We also need to regularly renew our stocks of uniforms and furnishings.
